Hoard-it is proud to have been awarded the contract for site hoarding on the restoration of the historic Hilsea Lido project, commissioned by Portsmouth City Council through Beard Construction – providing safety during construction.
This multi-million-pound initiative, funded by the UK government’s Levelling Up fund, represents a substantial investment in enhancing both local infrastructure and community well-being. The project is designed to breathe new life into and rejuvenate the area, attracting both residents and visitors, while emphasising Portsmouth’s rich heritage. By revitalising the Hilsea Lido, the project aims to provide a modern recreational space, whilst also preserving the historical essence that has made it a cherished site for nearly a century.
Hilsea Lido, which originally opened its doors to the public in 1935, has been a key landmark in the lives of Portsmouth residents for decades. Just a year after its grand opening, it gained national attention by hosting a demonstration by Britain’s Olympic diving team. This current restoration project is a step towards ensuring that this iconic site continues to serve as a community hub for future generations. The restoration is scheduled for completion by spring 2025, perfectly timed to coincide with the Lido’s 90th-anniversary celebrations in the summer.
Installation of the hoarding solution was completed on 2 July, and it will provide a safe and visually appealing barrier around the construction site until the project is complete. Spanning 105 metres, it includes a single-vehicle access gate and two pedestrian gates. These gates are strategically placed to allow easy access for construction vehicles and site workers while keeping the public safe by preventing unauthorised access to the site. This construction site hoarding system stands tall at 2.4 meters and along with the access gates has been painted in Beard’s corporate colours.
The system not only ensures safety but also contributes to the project’s aesthetics, enhancing the overall appeal of the area during construction.
Greg Guppy, Director of Hoard-it, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “Hoard-it is pleased to have been awarded and involved in this restoration project. Hilsea Lido is a popular and historic site in the city of Portsmouth.”
